I’ve got news. Let’s catch up, shall we?
Helloooooooooooooo. Ok, so two weeks off from blogging was not intended. But big things have been happening outside this little bubble and I’ve also been going through some creative frustrations lately. Let’s start from the beginning. First of all, I’ve been super busy with freelance outside my full-time job, so evenings have been dedicated to client work. All exciting things!! Last Thursday, we launched the brand new Emily + Meritt website. It was a dream to work with this duo and their team on bringing their brand to life online. I designed the entire site, its features, functions, little details here and there… all from a blank Photoshop board. Watching the development team bring it to life was amazing. Having complete creative freedom is the best - be sure to check out the new site! I’ll be continuing to work with them, so sign up for those emails… they’re going to be fun ;)
I also finally spent a good amount of time updating my project page last weekend. What a weight off my shoulders! And I started a Behance account. It’s so intimidating to start brand new on social media with zero followers, yikes! But I use the site so often anyways, so it was definitely time. Follow me here if you wish. I also got my newsletter back together - going out Thursday!! Sign-up here if you didn’t catch the pop-up. It’ll only go out every other week, maybe once a week if I’m feeling up to it.. Among other things I’ve gotten organized on, I’ve planned out what I’m doing for the holidays on the blog! It’ll be a fresh concept different than what I’ve done in the past, but I think you guys will love it and it will be a fun project for me to experience a bit. Coming in November! All this motivation and crossing off my long-overdue task list came out of a not so fun few weeks.
I’ve been dealing with the frustration of having a blogger take my graphics, ideas, page designs, and even using similar language that I wrote. Long story short, it made me not want to share work of mine out of fear that it will just be taken again. To know I’ve worked really hard on this journey for years to finally be in a place where I’m so confident in my style and niche…only to see someone else try to fast-forward their own journey through emulating mine just sucks. We’re all inspired by each other, but it’s another thing to copy and use someone’s work. Anyways, I’m sure this won’t be the only time I have to face this issue directly, so I’m learning to deal with it, learn from it, and move on from it.
The good news is, this issue has fueled my fire and got me to do all the things above. Then E+M launched and I received an overwhelming amount of kind messages from you all. It reminded me that people know and love my work, and anyone will see through others trying to use it for themselves. I’ve felt extra blessed this week, so thank you. This space is mine, but it’s also very much yours, and I’m grateful for those who continue to visit and support me here.
Look out for a new post Wednesday.
