Hellooooo, friends. I don’t know how 2019 is already here, but I’m definitely glad it is. 2018 wasn’t amazing, but it didn’t totally suck. I think that’s the best way I can describe it. Very #thankyounext vibes. I definitely grew professionally and personally, but felt like the past year was more of a stepping stone to what will be a better year in 2019. There were many lessons learned and ups and downs… more downs at the beginning of the year, with all the ups toward the end.
I have so much to be thankful for, especially when it comes to freelance work. I designed websites for clients like Taylor Sterling (along with her branding) and Emily + Meritt, as well as Ariel Okin. I joined The Great as freelance designer and am excited to continue working with the team in 2019. I finished over five other client projects on top of keeping my fulltime job. At work, I started leading my own team and asked for a raise for the first time ever, so that’s something! I didn’t do as much traveling as I had hoped for, but did go to Hawaii, which was a dream! I also moved into my own apartment… my favorite thing about the year.
While lots of good things happened, it was just sort of “meh.” Our family was going through a lot earlier in the year and that took a lot out of me mentally. Finally toward fall, I felt like I could actually start concentrating on myself, which felt good. I learned a lot about myself living alone at this age. That’s for sure. I learned to let go of things and people who don’t bring me joy, no matter how hard it is. I learned to say “no,” not only when I need to, but also when I want to. So that’s 2018, a quick recap.
I don’t love making resolutions, but am not opposed to creating little intentions for the year - isn’t that the thing to do these days? Here are mine!
Take better care of my body, but more importantly, my mind. Continue to be good about using social media less. Continue to shop less and keep to my spending budget when I do. Read more often. Continue putting money into savings weekly, no matter the amount. Travel somewhere new. Learn a new craft. Finish my Rosetta Stone Spanish lessons. Discover more of DC, and do it often. Be better about blogging. Don’t waste my time on things or people that don’t make me happy. Continue to buy myself flowers and massages. Become a better morning person. Finish my apartment. Surprise myself and make myself proud.
That’s it! After the past few years, I feel like things finally began turning around in 2018. So in the words of the new Mary Poppins film (go see it!)… “there’s no where to go, but up.”
Before I go, I really want to say THANK YOU. I’m so happy to see new readers come here for inspiration and love all the friendships created from this space. I cannot thank you enough for continuing to visit my little corner of the internet. Please stick around! I’ve updated my homepage moodboard to give it a little refresh and gave the site a new font I’ve been crushing on. The Directory has also been updated with lots of new shops! And I plan to actually get a photo of me up on my About page this year too, promise! Ok, wishing you all a fabulous 2019!
